HackDavis 2025

Challenge Overview

DataLab is pleased to sponsor the Open Data Hack for Social Good as part of HackDavis 2025 a 24-hour collegiate hackathon dedicated to empowering student hackers to collaborate and build impactful projects that make the world a better place. This year’s hackathon will take place in-person at the University Credit Union Center in Davis on April 19-20, 2025

Since it started in 2016, HackDavis has brought together hundreds of students from across California to form teams and collaborate on technical solutions for real-world community problems. Over 1,000 students are anticipated to take part in the upcoming event.

Get Involved

All Students are Invited

HackDavis is open to all students, and for the first time ever, graduate and professional students are also invited to participate as hackers! Check the HackDavis website for details and links to register.

Participate in DataLab’s Open Data Hack for Social Good. To qualify, projects must use at least one publicly accessible dataset that relates to UC Davis to address questions of interest to our campus community. For consideration for this award, the team must produce a GitHub repository with a readME, annotated code, and a reproducible static data visualization. The visualization should have an accompanying 1-page narrative describing the goals, methods, and interpretation of the project. Winners will have their visualization printed and displayed in the DataLab in Shields Library, be invited to a DataLab luncheon, and invited to participate in DataLab’s internship program. Runners-up will receive swag bags.

Volunteer Assistants and Judges

Interested graduate students and faculty members are also welcome to participate in HackDavis as volunteers to assist student groups with their projects or serve as judges. If you’d like to volunteer, reach out to team@hackdavis.io.
